The award winning Kauri Museum tells the story of the kauri tree and the people who developed industries to harvest the rich resources of our ancient kauri forests. The unparalleled kauri timber and magnificent juvenile amber (kauri gum) built our nation. Experience the kauri story of the past, understand its present and be part of the kauri tree's future. Open daily 9am - 5pm. Closed Christmas day. There is ample free parking for cars, camper vans and buses. No camping or overnight parking allowed.

A must to any Northland visit! Great museum- about the Kauri yes- logging, the first chain saws & caterpillars but even more so about pioneer life in the far north. Giant display of machines, entire bushmen houses, milling set-ups, milking sheds ….you name it! 3000m2 of refined Kiwi history- gum diggers, school house, historic post office etc. With ticket you can go in & out entire day and following day. Nice café across street. Scavenger hunt for kids with kauri gum as reward.

Very old fashioned museum, quite hard to get into informations (lots of reading, not really clear to see main informations or secondary ones). Well overpriced



Very interesting, we scheduled 1 hour for it, but it was to short
