We drove here and parked up near the church and walked around. We loved the contrast of the Māori building to the traditional Christian church, they are both beautifully made. There is some geothermal activity here too with bubbling water and steam pockets around! It is near the beautiful lake and there is a beautiful war memorial here too, we loved this area! Very nice, a good mix of Maori art, and geothermal activity. Free entrance (donations invited) for the church between 10am and noon, 5nz guided tour after but must be booked.
